Strategy
Mind Control is one of the most powerful and potentially game-changing cards in the priest`s arsenal. Ideally, reserve it for use upon especially powerful minions.
For many players, when playing against a priest it is considered reasonable to assume that they will have at least one Mind Control in their deck. While this is not necessarily true, because of the power of Mind Control, players will often choose to expect its use, and alter their actions accordingly.
Most importantly, this affects buffing a single minion to extreme levels and the summoning of very powerful minions, especially legendaries Rarity is a rough measure of the quality and scarcity of a card. Cards of higher rarity are typically more powerful and more useful, but are harder to find and more expensive to craft. There . For instance, a player tempted to play Deathwing Deathwing Set: Classic Type: Minion Subtype: Dragon Rarity: Legendary Cost: 10 Attack: 12 Health: 12 Abilities: Battlecry, Destroy, Discard Battlecry: Destroy all other minions and discard your hand.Once a noble dragon known as Neltharion, Deathwing may choose not to if he is playing against a priest (unless the priest has already used 2 x Mind Control) due to the risk of the priest Mind-Controlling Deathwing and defeating the player. A C`Thun C Thun Set: Whispers of the Old Gods Type: Minion Rarity: Legendary Cost: 10 Attack: 6 Health: 6 Abilities: Battlecry, Deal damage Tags: Attack-related, Random Battlecry: Deal damage equal to this minion s Attack randomly split among of 15 - 20 attack could spell doom for the opponent if the Battlecry does not succeed in killing the priest. Even if the priest currently has no cards in their hand, experienced players can easily do the maths to predict the chance of the priest drawing it next turn, and swiftly defeating the player. For this reason, when playing against priests, very powerful minions can often become a burden, with the player not wanting to play them until they are certain that the priest cannot take control of it.
Mind Control does not become available until late into the game. Players can use this knowledge to anticipate its use. Essentially, once round 10 has been reached, it is possible that the priest will use Mind Control at any time. Note that use of The Coin The Coin Set: Basic Type: Spell Cost: 0 Tags: Mana-related Gain 1 Mana Crystal this turn only.See this card on Hearthpwn data page] The Coin is a special uncollectible spell card granted at the start can allow its use on round 9. Some priests may be particularly likely to play Mind Control on round 10, due to their eagerness to make use of the card. This can be helpful to their opponent, as they may not have yet played their most valuable minions by that point.
Notes
- Unless the target minion has the Charge For the card of the same name, see Charge (card) Charge is an ability allowing a minion to attack the same turn it is summoned. Trivia
Prior to Patch 1.0.0.4217, Mind Control was one of the most infamous cards in the game. A large amount of debate about it and its perceived unfairness featured on the official forums, with many considering the spell overpowered, given the card`s potential to single-handedly win the game for the priest, by taking control of a particularly powerful minion in the mid- to late-game. The card`s mana cost was increased from 8 to 10 in an attempt to balance this.
